Cake and Mousse Ingredients
Method
Preparation Steps
Prepare the Cake
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan.
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt over a double boiler or in the microwave in short bursts until smooth. Let cool slightly.
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together granulated sugar and eggs until pale and fluffy.
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, mixing until well combined.
Add Flour and Salt
Sift in the all-purpose flour and add a pinch of salt. Gently fold until just combined.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Mousse
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
Fold Mousse into Cake
Once the cake is completely cooled, gently fold the whipped cream mixture into the cooled chocolate mixture. Pour the mousse over the cake and spread evenly.
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours until the mousse is set. Serve chilled and enjoy!
