Mashed Potatoes Ingredients

Method

Mashed Potatoes Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into equal-sized chunks for even cooking.

  2. 2

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot, cover with water, and add a teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.

  3. 3

    Drain and Steam Dry

Drain the potatoes in a colander and allow them to steam dry for a few minutes to remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Mash the Potatoes

In a large bowl, add the drained potatoes. Use a potato masher or fork to mash them until smooth.

  5. 5

    Add Butter and Milk

Add the butter and gradually pour in the milk while continuing to mash until the desired creaminess is achieved.

  6. 6

    Season

Season with salt and black pepper to taste. If using garlic, you can either add minced garlic to the mix or roast the garlic beforehand and mash it in for a milder flavor.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the mashed potatoes warm as a side dish.
