Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Pat it dry with paper towels. Rub the olive oil over both sides of the steak. Generously season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Preheat the Pan

In a heavy skillet or cast iron pan, heat over medium-high heat until hot, about 5 minutes.

  2. 3

    Sear the Steak

Once the pan is hot, carefully place the seasoned ribeye steak in the pan. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it, until a crust forms.

  3. 4

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak to the other side and immediately add the butter and rosemary to the pan. Cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, basting the steak with the melted butter and rosemary as it cooks.

  4. 5

    Check Temperature

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the steak. For medium-rare, it should be about 135°F (57°C). If necessary, cook longer until the desired doneness is reached.

  5. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes before slicing.
