Boil the Base
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

Add Aromatics
Add the sliced galangal root, chopped lemongrass, torn kaffir lime leaves, and whole Thai chili peppers to the pot. Boil for about 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.

Season the Broth
Stir in the fish sauce, lime juice, and sugar. Adjust the seasoning according to taste. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes.

Add the sliced mushrooms, sliced onion, and quartered tomato to the pot. Allow to simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
