Method

Preparing the Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the glutinous rice in a large bowl and rinse under cold water. Swirl the rice with your hands to remove excess starch. Drain and repeat until the water runs clear, about 3-4 times.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

After rinsing, cover the rice with water and let it soak for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  3. 3

    Drain the Rice

Once soaked, drain the rice and set it aside.

Cooking the Rice

  1. 4

    Prepare the Steamer

Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil. Line the steamer basket with cheesecloth or banana leaves to prevent the rice from falling through.

  2. 5

    Steam the Rice

Spread the soaked and drained rice evenly in the lined steamer basket. Cover with a lid and steam for about 25-30 minutes, or until the rice is translucent and tender.

Preparing the Coconut Sauce

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a small saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, but do not let it boil.

  2. 7

    Adjust Flavor

Taste the sauce and adjust sweetness or saltiness as desired. Keep it warm until serving.

Serving the Sticky Rice

  1. 8

    Plate the Rice

Once the rice is cooked, remove it from the steamer and let it cool slightly. Serve it in a bowl or on a plate.

  2. 9

    Add Coconut Sauce

Drizzle the warm coconut sauce over the sticky rice.

  3. 10

    Garnish and Serve

If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds on top for garnish. Serve warm and enjoy!
