For the Crispy Tofu
For the Lettuce Wraps
Method
Preparing the Crispy Tofu
- 1
Press the Tofu
Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, place it on a plate, and put a heavy object on top (like a cast iron skillet) for about 30 minutes.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, about 1-inch each.
- 3
Coat the Tofu
In a mixing bowl, combine the cubed tofu with soy sauce, garlic powder, and salt. Let it marinate for about 10-15 minutes. Then, toss the marinated tofu in cornstarch until evenly coated.
- 4
Fry the Tofu
Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated tofu in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, approximately 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Assembling the Lettuce Wraps
- 5
Prepare the Vegetables
While the tofu is frying, julienne the carrot and cucumber. Chop the green onions and set aside.
- 6
Assemble the Wraps
Take a lettuce leaf and place a few pieces of crispy tofu in the center. Top with julienned carrots, cucumbers, and chopped green onions.
- 7
Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top and add chili sauce to taste. Serve immediately while the tofu is still crispy.
