Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the yogurt and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

Cooking Naan

  1. 6

    Preheat Cooking Surface

Preheat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat until hot.

  2. 7

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval or round shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Cook Naan

Place the rolled dough onto the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until bubbles form and the bottom is golden brown. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.

  4. 9

    Add Toppings

Once cooked, remove the naan from the skillet. Brush it with melted ghee or butter, sprinkle with minced garlic, cilantro, and salt to taste.

  5. 10

    Serve

Serve the naan warm with your favorite curry or dip.
