Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Pat the New York Strip steak dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Sear the Steak

Heat olive oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steak and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, adjusting time to desired doneness.

  3. 3

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Crispy Mashed Potatoes

  1. 4

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks. Boil in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 5

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return to the pot. Add butter, heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth.

  3. 6

    Prepare for Crisping

Spread the mashed potatoes in a baking dish. Top with breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.

  4. 7

    Crisp the Potatoes

Broil in the oven for 5-7 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.

Vegetable Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare the Vegetables

Wash and trim the asparagus and carrots. Toss them in olive oil, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 9

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet used for the steak, add the vegetables and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until tender-crisp.
