Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Season the New York strip steak with salt and black pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a little oil. Sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly.

  2. 2

    Make the Au Jus

In the same skillet, add the beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes to reduce slightly.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Garlic Toast

While the au jus is simmering, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the French bread or baguette in half and spread butter on each half. Mince the garlic cloves and sprinkle them on top of the butter. Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes or until golden and crispy.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Mini Dips

On each piece of garlic toast, layer the sliced steak and top with Gruyere cheese. Place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the mini steak French dips with a small bowl of au jus on the side for dipping.
