Steak and Cheese

Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Cook the Steak

Season the New York strip steak with salt and pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a bit of oil. Sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly.

Making the Garlic Toast

  1. 2

    Prepare the Garlic Butter

In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic and chopped parsley (if using). Slice the French baguette in half lengthwise and spread the garlic butter generously on each half.

  2. 3

    Toast the Bread

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the buttered baguette halves on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden and crisp.

Making the Au Jus

  1. 4

    Prepare the Au Jus

In a saucepan, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder. Bring to a simmer and season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow to simmer for about 5-10 minutes to enhance the flavors.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 5

Assemble the Mini Steak French Dips

Slice the garlic toast and layer the sliced steak on top. Place a slice of Gruyere cheese over the steak. Serve with a small bowl of au jus for dipping.
