Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the long-grain white rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

Cooking
- 3
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute, being careful not to burn it.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Peppers
Stir in the diced tomato and bell pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.
- 5
Add Rice and Spices
Add the rinsed rice to the skillet along with cumin powder, paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the rice with the spices and vegetables.
- 6
Pour in Broth and Tomato Sauce
Pour in the vegetable broth and tomato sauce. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
- 7
Simmer the Rice
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and has absorbed the liquid. If using, add green peas in the last 5 minutes of cooking.
