Method
Cooking Jasmine Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water for about 1-2 minutes until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming gummy.
- 2
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed jasmine rice, 1.5 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt. If using, add 1 tbsp of butter or oil for added flavor.
- 3
Bring to a Boil
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low.
- 4
Simmer the Rice
Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid and let the rice simmer on low heat for about 15-18 minutes. Do not lift the lid while it’s cooking to ensure steam remains inside.
- 5
Let it Rest
Once the cooking time is up, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to finish cooking in its own steam.
- 6
Fluff and Serve
After resting, remove the lid and use a fork to fluff the rice gently. If desired, sprinkle with fresh herbs before serving.
