Potatoes

Oil for Frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Using a sharp knife, cut each potato into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure uniform cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl and cover them with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or a deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C) over medium-high heat. Use a thermometer to check the temperature for frying.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and lay them out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove excess moisture, which can cause the oil to splatter.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in batches. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and let them drain on a plate lined with paper towels. While they are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Hot

Serve the fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. They can be enjoyed plain or with your favorite dipping sauces.
