Prepare the Beef Patty
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

Form the Patties
Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾ inch thick.

Add Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty, covering it to help it melt.

Prepare Toppings
While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves and slice the tomato. Set aside.

Cook Bacon (if using)
In a separate skillet, cook the bacon slices over medium heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels.

On a plate, place the bottom half of a hamburger bun. Add a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked beef patty with melted cheese. Top with a slice of tomato and the crispy bacon (if using). Finish with the top half of the bun.

Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and scrub the russet potatoes to remove any dirt. Cut them into thin slices (about 1/4 inch thick) to make chips.

In a large bowl, toss the potato slices with olive oil, salt, and paprika until evenly coated.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the potato slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
