Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Rub the New York Strip steak with Caribbean jerk seasoning on both sides. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed for maximum flavor.

  2. 2

    Cook the Steak

In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is achieved. Remove from skillet and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Preparing the Vegetables and Plantain

  1. 3

    Slice the Vegetables

While the steak is cooking, slice the chayote, yellow squash, and sweet bell peppers into thin strips or rounds.

  2. 4

    Cook the Vegetables

In the same skillet used for the steak, add a little more oil if necessary and sauté the sliced chayote, yellow squash, and sweet bell peppers over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until tender. Remove from heat.

  3. 5

    Prepare the Plantain

Peel the sweet plantain and slice it diagonally into thick pieces. In a separate pan, fry the plantain slices in oil over medium heat until golden brown and caramelized, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Plate the Dish

On a serving plate, arrange the sautéed vegetables and fried plantain around the sliced steak. Top with fried onions for added crunch and flavor.

  2. 7

    Serve

Serve the Caribbean NY Strip warm with your choice of sides or a fresh salad.
