Fried Shrimp

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Place them in a bowl and pour in the buttermilk, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a separate bowl, combine the yellow cornmeal, all-purpose flour, cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to ensure an even distribution of the spices.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the heat by dropping a small amount of the breading into the oil; it should sizzle and float.

  4. 4

    Coat the Shrimp

Once the oil is hot, remove the shrimp from the buttermilk and allow excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each shrimp in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the coated shrimp in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
