Method

For the Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the dill pickles and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then stir in the buttermilk until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Batter

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. The batter should be thick.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place them into the hot oil. Fry in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ranch dip.

For the Ranch Dip

  1. 8

    Mix the Dip Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 9

    Chill the Dip

Stir until well combined and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
