Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and mix until smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and then frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

Serving Suggestions

  1. 10

    Serve
