Method

Preparation of Strawberries

  1. 1

    Wash and Hull Strawberries

Rinse the strawberries under cool running water. Remove the green tops (hulling) and then slice the strawberries into halves or quarters, depending on their size.

  2. 2

    Macerate Strawberries

Place the sliced strawberries in a bowl and sprinkle with 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar. Toss the strawberries gently to coat them with sugar. Let them sit for about 15 minutes to release their juices.

Preparation of Lemonade

  1. 3

    Juice the Lemons

Roll the lemons on a hard surface to soften them, then cut them in half. Use a citrus juicer to extract the juice from the lemons. Strain the juice to remove seeds and pulp if desired.

  2. 4

    Dissolve Sugar

In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the remaining 3/4 cup of granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. This creates a simple syrup.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 5

    Mix the Components

In a large pitcher, combine the macerated strawberries (along with their juices), the freshly squeezed lemon juice, and the simple syrup. Add the remaining 3 cups of water and stir well to combine.

  2. 6

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or water as needed.

Serving

  1. 7

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the strawberry lemonade for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve over ice, garnished with fresh mint leaves and lemon slices if desired.
