Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Berries

Wash the strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries thoroughly under cold running water. Remove the green tops from the strawberries and slice them into halves or quarters. Set all berries aside.

  2. 2

    Sterilize Jars

Wash 1 large 8 oz jar and its lid in hot soapy water. Rinse well and place in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to sterilize. Remove and set aside to cool.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Berries

In a large pot, combine the prepared strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Mash the berries gently with a potato masher to release their juices. Place the pot over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Add Sugar and Pectin

Once the berries start to simmer, add the granulated sugar and the fruit pectin. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil while stirring constantly.

  3. 5

    Add Lemon Juice

After the mixture has reached a rolling boil, stir in the fresh lemon juice. Continue to boil for an additional 1-2 minutes or until the mixture thickens.

Canning

  1. 6

    Fill the Jar

Remove the pot from heat. Carefully ladle the hot jam into the sterilized jar, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace at the top. Wipe the rim of the jar with a clean cloth to remove any residue.

  2. 7

    Seal the Jar

Place the sterilized lid on top of the jar and screw on the metal band until it is fingertip-tight. Do not over-tighten.

  3. 8

    Process the Jar

Place the jar back into the boiling water bath and process for 10 minutes to ensure a proper seal. Remove the jar from the water and let it cool completely on a clean towel.
