Prepare the Aioli
In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 tsp lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Prepare the Squid
In a large bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.

Coat the Squid
Dip the squid rings into the beaten egg, then coat them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

Fry the Squid
Carefully add the coated squid rings to the hot oil in batches and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with aioli on the side.
