Method

Making the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and sea salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and il Buco olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

  2. 6

    Shape the Bread

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape it into a round or oval loaf, then place it onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 7

    Second Rise

Cover the shaped dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.

  4. 8

    Prepare for Baking

Make several slashes on the top of the dough using a sharp knife. Brush the top with additional il Buco olive oil and sprinkle sea salt over it.

  5. 9

    Bake the Bread

Place the bread in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  6. 10

    Cool the Bread

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
