Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, and black pepper. Add the flank or sirloin steak and ensure it's fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (preferably 2 hours) to allow flavors to meld.

  2. 2

    Prepare Vegetables

While the steak is marinating, wash and slice the zucchini, onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Set the vegetables aside.

  3. 3

    Cook Rice

Prepare white rice according to package instructions if not already cooked. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Cook the Steak

Heat a large skillet or griddle over high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.

  2. 5

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add a bit of oil if necessary. Add the sliced zucchini, onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Sauté over high heat for about 5-7 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.

  3. 6

    Serve the Dish

On a serving platter, arrange the cooked rice, topped with the sautéed vegetables and sliced steak. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds to taste.
