Preparation
- 1
Clean the Octopus
Rinse the octopus under cold water to remove any debris. If not already done, remove the beak and innards. You can ask your fishmonger to clean it for you.
- 2
Tenderize the Octopus
To tenderize the octopus, you can freeze it overnight and then thaw it before cooking. Alternatively, you can gently pound it with a meat mallet.
Marinade

- 4
Marinate the Octopus
Place the cleaned octopus in a large resealable bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag or cover the dish and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours for more flavor.
Grilling
- 5
Preheat the Grill
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F or 200°C). You can also use a grill pan on the stove.
- 6
Grill the Octopus
Remove the octopus from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Place the octopus on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until charred and cooked through. Depending on the size of the octopus, this may take a bit longer.
- 7
Rest and Serve
Once cooked, remove the octopus from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Cut it into pieces and serve with additional lemon wedges and fresh parsley for garnish.
