Preparation
1. Choose Fresh Coconuts
Select two fresh green coconuts from a grocery store or farmer's market. Look for coconuts that feel heavy for their size and have no cracks.
2. Open the Coconuts
Using a sharp knife or coconut opener, carefully cut the top off each coconut to create an opening. Ensure you do this over a bowl or container to catch the coconut water.
3. Pour Out the Coconut Water
Tilt the opened coconut over the bowl or container and let the coconut water pour out. Repeat for the second coconut.
4. Strain (Optional)
If desired, strain the coconut water through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any bits of coconut flesh.
5. Add Optional Ingredients (Optional)
If you prefer flavored coconut water, add lime juice, honey or agave syrup, and mint leaves to the strained coconut water. Stir well to combine.
Serving
6. Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the coconut water for about 30 minutes before serving, or serve immediately over ice for a refreshing drink.
