Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Sticky Rice
Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 2
Prepare the Coconut Mixture
In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat.
- 3
Mix the Ingredients
Drain the soaked rice and mix it with the coconut mixture until the rice is evenly coated.
- 4
Prepare the Banana Leaves
Soften the banana leaves by briefly passing them over an open flame or by steaming them. Cut into squares about 10x10 inches.
- 5
Assemble the Khao Tom Mud
Place a portion of the rice mixture on the center of each banana leaf square. Add 1 baby banana on top of the rice, then fold the banana leaf over to create a parcel.
- 6
Steam the Parcels
Place the banana leaf parcels in a steamer and steam for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is cooked and sticky.
- 7
Serve
Remove the parcels from the steamer. Allow to cool slightly before unwrapping and serving.
