Fried Chicken Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Chicken
Begin by cutting the whole chicken into pieces, which typically includes the breasts, thighs, drumsticks, and wings. Rinse the pieces under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Marinate in Buttermilk
In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk over the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. This tenderizes the chicken and adds flavor.
- 3
Prepare the Coating
In another large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well until all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat. The oil is ready when it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test it by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles and browns quickly, the oil is hot enough.
- 5
Coat the Chicken
Take each chicken piece out of the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- 6
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil, being sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches if necessary. Cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- 7
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious fried chicken pack!
