Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Prepare Berries

Thoroughly wash the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries under running water. Gently pat them dry with a clean towel.

  2. 2

    Chop Strawberries

Remove the green tops from the strawberries and chop them into smaller pieces. This will help them break down more easily during cooking.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Combine Fruits

In a large pot, combine the chopped strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Stir to mix the berries evenly.

  2. 4

    Add Sugar and Pectin

Sprinkle the granulated sugar and the contents of the fruit pectin box over the mixed berries. Stir well to ensure that the sugar and pectin are evenly distributed.

  3. 5

    Cook the Mixture

Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Allow it to cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the berries are soft and the mixture starts to thicken.

  4. 6

    Add Lemon Juice

Once the mixture has thickened, remove it from heat. Stir in the fresh lemon juice, which will add brightness to the flavor.

Canning

  1. 7

    Prepare Jars

While the berry mixture is cooking, prepare your canning jars by washing them in hot, soapy water and rinsing well. Place them in a hot oven (about 200°F or 93°C) to sterilize.

  2. 8

    Fill Jars

Carefully ladle the hot berry preserve into the prepared jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace at the top. Wipe the rims of the jars with a clean cloth to remove any residue.

  3. 9

    Seal and Process Jars

Place the lids on the jars and screw on the bands until they are fingertip-tight. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure they are sealed properly.

  4. 10

    Cool and Store

Remove the jars from the boiling water and let them cool completely on a clean towel. Once cooled, check the seals and store the jars in a cool, dark place. The preserve can be enjoyed for up to one year.
