Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and milk to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Croissant Assembly

  1. 6

    Roll Out Dough

After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 7

    Cut into Triangles

Cut the rolled-out dough into triangles, approximately 4-5 inches wide at the base.

  3. 8

    Add Filling

Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on the wider end of each triangle.

  4. 9

    Roll Croissants

Starting from the wide end, roll the triangle tightly towards the point to form a croissant shape. Ensure the point is tucked underneath.

  5. 10

    Second Rise

Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  6. 11

    Preheat Oven

While the croissants are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  7. 12

    Egg Wash

Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the croissants for a golden finish.

  8. 13

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
