Method
Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Begin by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
After pressing, cut the tofu into cubes or slices, depending on your preference.
- 3
Coat with Cornstarch
Place the cut tofu pieces in a bowl. Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and toss gently until each piece is evenly coated.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- 5
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the coated tofu pieces to the hot oil in a single layer. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan; fry in batches if necessary.
- 6
Drain the Tofu
Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the tofu from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Seasoning
- 7
Season
While the tofu is still hot, season it with soy sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Toss gently to ensure the tofu is well coated.
