Method
Gravy
- 1
Prepare the Roux
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the beef drippings and allow them to melt. Once melted, whisk in the flour until the mixture is smooth and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- 2
Add Broth and Seasonings
Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Add soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a simmer, stirring until thickened, about 10-15 minutes.
- 3
Adjust Seasoning
Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with additional salt if needed. Keep warm until ready to serve.
French Fries
- 4
Prepare the Potatoes
Peel and cut the potatoes into thin strips. Rinse in cold water to remove excess starch. Pat dry with paper towels.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add the potato strips in batches to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.
Famous Cake
- 7
