Method
Chicken Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Set aside.
- 3
Fry the Chicken
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Fry the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
Waffles Preparation
- 4
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- 5
- 6
Make the Waffle Batter
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- 7
Cook the Waffles
Preheat a waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions. Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown. Repeat with remaining batter.
Gravy Preparation
- 8
- 9
Add Liquid Ingredients
Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes until thickened.
- 10
Finish the Gravy
Stir in the heavy cream, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the gravy is creamy and smooth.
