Breakfast
- 1
Prepare the Biscuits
In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
- 2
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 30 seconds. Pat into a 1-inch thick round. Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter or glass.
- 3
Bake the Biscuits
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 4
Make the Sausage Gravy
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the turkey sausage until browned. Drain excess fat, leaving about a tablespoon in the pan.
- 5
Thicken the Gravy
Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk, and bring to a simmer. Continue stirring until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 6
Prepare the Monte Cristo
In another skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Layer each slice of brioche with a slice of Duroc ham and Swiss cheese, then top with another slice of brioche.
- 7
Cook the Monte Cristo
Fry the sandwiches in the skillet until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and cut in half.
- 8
- 9
Assemble and Serve
Serve the biscuits topped with sausage gravy, alongside the Monte Cristo sandwich and fried eggs. Enjoy your hearty breakfast!
