Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into equal-sized chunks (about 1-2 inches) to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the potato chunks into a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Mashing

  1. 3

    Drain and Steam

Once cooked, drain the potatoes in a colander and let them steam for a few minutes to remove excess moisture.

  2. 4

    Mash Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add 4 tablespoons of butter, 0.5 cups of milk, and 0.5 cups of sour cream. Use a potato masher or a hand mixer to mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.

Seasoning

  1. 5

    Season the Mash

Add 1 tsp of salt and 0.5 tsp of black pepper to the mashed potatoes. Mix well to combine and taste. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve Warm

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and serve warm, garnished with additional butter or herbs if desired.
