Method
Prepare the Calamari
- 1
Clean and Cut Calamari
If using whole squid, clean and cut the calamari into tentacle pieces. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Coat Calamari
Dredge the calamari tentacles in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
Fry the Calamari
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari tentacles to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 6
Fry Jalapenos
In the same oil, add sliced jalapenos and fry for 1-2 minutes until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Prepare Whipped Avocado
- 7
Mash Avocados
In a medium bowl, scoop out the ripe avocados and mash them with a fork until smooth.
- 8
Serve
- 9
Plate the Dish
On a serving platter, place the crispy fried calamari tentacles. Top with fried jalapenos and serve with a side of whipped avocado for dipping.
