Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into thick strips, approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide.

  2. 2

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will make the fries crispier.

  3. 3

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they're still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the hand-cut fries hot as a side dish or snack.
