Water Fern Cakes Ingredients

Method

Water Fern Cakes Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Mung Beans

Rinse the mung beans thoroughly under cold water. Soak them in water for at least 4 hours or overnight until they are soft.

  2. 2

    Prepare Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the soaked mung beans, rice flour, tapioca starch, water, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until you achieve a smooth batter. Let it rest for about 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook Ground Pork

In a skillet over medium heat, add vegetable oil. Once hot, add ground pork and sauté until fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula. Stir in chopped green onions and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

  4. 4

    Prepare Steamer

Prepare a steamer by boiling water in a pot. Line the steamer baskets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

  5. 5

    Assemble and Cook Cakes

Pour a ladleful of the batter into each steamer basket, followed by a spoonful of the cooked ground pork mixture. Top with another ladleful of batter to cover the filling. Repeat until all the batter and pork are used, ensuring not to overcrowd the steamer.

  6. 6

    Steam Cakes

Cover the steamer and steam the cakes for about 20-25 minutes, or until the batter is set and firm to touch.

  7. 7

    Serve

Once done, carefully remove the cakes from the steamer. Serve warm with chili sauce on the side for dipping.
