Mac & Cheese Bites

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Cook the Macaroni

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and mix well.

  3. 3

    Chill the Mixture

Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Spread it evenly, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.

  4. 4

    Prepare for Frying

Once firm, scoop out small portions of the chilled mac and cheese and roll them into balls. In a shallow bowl, whisk the egg. In another shallow bowl, place the bread crumbs. Dip each mac and cheese ball into the egg, followed by the bread crumbs, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Bites

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded mac and cheese balls in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the mac and cheese bites warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
