Method
Preparation
Melt the Butter
In a large saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat until fully melted and bubbling.
Add Flour
Gradually whisk in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until the mixture is smooth and forms a paste (roux). Continue to whisk for about 2-3 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
Cooking
Incorporate Broth
Slowly pour in 4 cups of turkey or chicken broth while continuously whisking to prevent lumps from forming. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Season the Gravy
Add 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of onion powder, and 1 tsp of dried thyme. Stir well to combine and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the gravy thickens.
Add Optional Ingredients
If desired, stir in 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce for depth of flavor and 2 tbsp of chopped fresh parsley for freshness.
Serving
Serve the Gravy
Once thickened to your liking, remove the gravy from heat and pour into a serving bowl or gravy boat. Serve warm alongside roasted turkey or as a dipping sauce for subs.
