Method
Meatball Preparation
Mix the Meatball Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper.
Form the Meatballs
Using your hands, mix the ingredients until well combined. Form the mixture into meatballs, about the size of a golf ball.
Brown the Meatballs
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for about 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.
Sauce Preparation
Sauté the Onion and Garlic
In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Pour in the canned tomatoes, and add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
Simmer the Sauce
Lower the heat and return the browned meatballs to the skillet. Cover and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Serving
Plate the Meatballs
Serve the meatballs topped with the sauce. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, fresh parsley, and red chili flakes if desired.
