Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.
- 2
Prepare Baking Sheets
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent cookies from sticking.
Mixing
- 3
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 4
Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- 5
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
- 6
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- 7
Fold in Mix-ins
Using a spatula, gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
Baking
- 8
Scoop the Dough
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- 9
Bake Cookies
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.
- 10
Cool Cookies
Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
