Steak and Toppings

Method

Preparing the Fries

  1. 1

    Fry the Potatoes

Preheat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the frozen French fries. Fry them according to package instructions or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  2. 2

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss them well to ensure even coating.

Cooking the Steak and Toppings

  1. 3

    Prepare the Steak

Season the ribeye steak with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steak and sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to desired doneness. Remove from skillet and let rest before slicing thinly.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add butter and then sauté the sliced onions and mushrooms over medium heat until they are softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 5

    Combine the Steak and Sauce

Slice the rested steak into thin strips. Add the Worcestershire sauce to the skillet with the onions and mushrooms, then add the sliced steak. Stir to combine and heat through for about 2 minutes.

Assembling the Cheesesteak Fries

  1. 6

    Top the Fries

On a large serving platter, spread the seasoned fries. Evenly distribute the steak, mushroom, and onion mixture over the fries.

  2. 7

    Add Cheese

Top the hot steak and fries with shredded white American cheese. You can also pop the platter in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes to melt the cheese if desired.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot, garnished with additional black pepper or fresh parsley if desired.
