Brownie Layer

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Melt Butter and Mix Sugars
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar until well combined.

Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add 3 large eggs and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

Bake Brownie Layer
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Prepare Cookie Dough
In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of unsalted butter, 1 3/4 cups of granulated sugar, and 1 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in 2 large eggs and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, sift together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Assemble Layers
Once the brownie layer has cooled slightly, spread the cookie dough evenly on top of the brownie layer.

Bake the Brookie
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cool and Serve
Allow the brookie to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into bars and serving.
