Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Begin by chilling an old-fashioned glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Muddle the Sugar

In a mixing glass, place the sugar cube at the bottom. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters on top of the sugar cube.

  3. 3

    Dissolve the Sugar

Using a muddler, gently press down on the sugar cube to break it apart. Stir the mixture until the sugar is mostly dissolved.

  4. 4

    Add Bourbon and Vermouth

Pour in 2 oz of Buffalo Trace Bourbon and 1 oz of Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture.

  5. 5

    Stir the Mixture

Add 3 ice cubes to the mixing glass and stir the cocktail gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

  6. 6

    Strain into Glass

Discard the ice water from your chilled old-fashioned glass. Strain the cocktail mixture into the glass over a single large ice cube or leave it neat.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Take a piece of orange peel and express the oils over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a slight twist. Optionally, you can also drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
