Method

Cooking the Spaghetti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions (usually around 8-10 minutes) until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, diced carrot, and diced celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  3. 6

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  4. 7

    Brown the Ground Beef

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red wine (if using).

  6. 9

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. 10

    Serve

To serve, place a portion of spaghetti on a plate and top with the Bolognese sauce. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.
