Method

Pie Crust

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pie Crust

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Form into a disk and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer to a 9-inch pie pan and trim the edges. Prick the bottom with a fork and refrigerate while preparing the filling.

Apple Filling

  1. 3

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a large bowl, combine the apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

  2. 4

    Add Caramel Sauce

Pour the caramel sauce over the apple mixture and stir gently to combine.

Crumble Topping

  1. 5

    Make the Crumble Topping

In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and oats. Melt the unsalted butter and mix it into the dry ingredients until crumbly.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 6

    Assemble the Pie

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.

  2. 7

    Bake the Pie

Bake the pie for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

  3. 8

    Cool and Serve

Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side.
