For the Chicken Fried Steak

For the Sausage Gravy

For the Hash Browns and Eggs

Method

For the Chicken Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steaks

Tenderize the beef round steaks using a meat mallet to about 1/2 inch thickness. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

  2. 2

    Set up the Breading Station

In one bowl, pour the buttermilk. In another bowl, mix flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. Beat the eggs in a third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Steaks

Dip each steak first in buttermilk, then in flour, then in beaten egg, and finally back in flour to create a thick crust.

  4. 4

    Fry the Steaks

In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded steaks until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

For the Sausage Gravy

  1. 5

    Cook the Sausage

In a separate skillet, brown the ground sausage over medium heat until fully cooked. Break it apart with a spatula.

  2. 6

    Make the Gravy

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, stir to combine, and cook for about 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.

  3. 7

    Season the Gravy

Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep warm while preparing the rest of the dish.

For the Hash Browns and Eggs

  1. 8

    Prepare the Hash Browns

Grate the potatoes and rinse them in cold water. Drain and pat dry with a paper towel.

  2. 9

    Cook the Hash Browns

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the grated potatoes, season with salt and pepper, and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes per side.

  3. 10

    Cook the Eggs

In a separate pan, cook the eggs to your liking (fried, scrambled, or poached). Season with salt and pepper.

  4. 11

    Toast the Bread

Toast the bread slices until golden brown.
