Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Soak the Beans

Rinse the dried navy beans under cold water and place them in a large bowl. Cover with water and let them soak overnight. Drain and rinse before cooking.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beans

In a large pot, add the soaked beans and 4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour until the beans are tender. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Mixture

In the same pot, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Add the cooked beans back to the pot along with brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

  5. 5

    Bake the Beans

Transfer the mixture to a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) in a baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 1.5 hours. Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes to allow for browning.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm as a hearty side dish.
