Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well blended.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 7

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer, stirring occasionally.

  2. 8

    Make the Ganache

Remove from heat and add the chopped semisweet chocolate to the hot cream. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.

  3. 9

    Cool the Ganache

Let the ganache cool to room temperature before using it to frost the cake.

Tartuffo Filling

  1. 10

    Mix Tartuffo Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and chopped hazelnuts. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Assembling the Cake

  1. 11

    Layer the Cake

Place one layer of the cooled cake on a serving plate. Spread the tartuffo filling evenly over the top.

  2. 12

    Top with Second Layer

Place the second layer of the cake on top of the filling.

  3. 13

    Frost the Cake

Pour the cooled chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  4. 14

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to set the ganache before slicing and serving.
