Tomato Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Reserve a cup of pasta water for later use.

Making the Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking the Shrimp

  1. 8

    Add Shrimp to Sauce

After the sauce has simmered, add the raw shrimp to the skillet. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.

  2. 9

    Combine with Pasta

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the shrimp and sauce. Toss everything together, adding reserved pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce.

Serving

  1. 10

    Plate the Dish

Divide the spaghetti with shrimp and tomato sauce among serving plates.

  2. 11

    Garnish

Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese over the top before serving.
